2. Automotive's share of the chemicals and plastics industry

The automotive sector is of great importance to the major chemical companies that supply polymer materials, and to plastics processors.

First of all, material consumption is not negligible, since the transport industry accounts for 15% of plastics consumption by mass, with around 9% to 10% for the automotive industry (figure 9 ).

Although polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene) (Figure 10 ) and polyurethanes account for a large share of the market, technical materials, which are generally more profitable, still account for almost a quarter of sales (Figure
