4. Applications
PEEK can be found in virtually every industrial sector, thanks to its combination of several critical properties (table 8 ). Its development is driven by the need to push back the limits of material use. It is a replacement for machined metals such as stainless steel, aluminum or titanium, for thermoplastics and thermosets, or a response to new designs.
4.1 Automotive
This is the leading market for PEEK, accounting for around 35% of production. The most important properties in this field are temperature resistance, mechanical properties, chemical resistance, resistance to friction and wear, and relative ease of processing.
