3. Towards industrialization of PLA70%/PMMA30%-17%BS120 composition

3.1 Adapting the shaping process

When scaling up from a "laboratory" process to an industrial one, it is the changes in extrusion parameters that potentially have the greatest influence on the final properties of the material (as injection parameters can be broadly maintained from one scale to the next). The industrial extruder used is a Leistritz ZSE co-rotating twin-screw extruder. It may be noted that the profile of the screw can have an influence on the properties of the extruded material. However, this point has not been studied. The "scale-up" of the extrusion phase focused on optimizing the feed rate (3 compounds introduced simultaneously) and screw rotation speed. To achieve this, ternary PLA/PMMA-BS compositions were extruded with screw rotation speeds and feed rates varying...
