5. Preparation of test specimens from plates or parts
If samples can be taken from the parts themselves, this is apparently simpler, but requires precautions to avoid damaging the material in the test areas.
The standards governing the preparation of test specimens are very varied, and may concern general cases or specific materials.
Three main standards deal with general cases:
NF EN ISO 2818 "Plastics – Preparation of specimens by machining" and ISO 2818 establish the principles and general operating procedures to be followed when machining and producing notches on specimens produced from compression-molded and injection-molded plastics, extruded sheets, plates, and partially or fully finished products;
ISO 20753:2008 "Plastics – Test specimens" specifies the dimensional characteristics of test specimens prepared...
