1. Mechanical modeling
The first models for predicting the mechanical behavior of composites were based on composites consisting solely of matrix and reinforcement, joined by a perfect interface of zero thickness. These included models derived from suspension rheology and phenomenological models. Only analytical models of load transfer, assembly and homogenization allow the introduction of an intermediate phase, of non-zero thickness, between the matrix and the reinforcement, which constitutes the interphase.
