5. Electrical engineering

Silicones are popular for electrical insulation over a wide temperature range, thanks to their elasticity, waterproofing, durability, including in outdoor applications, and water resistance.

Electrical wires and cables, electrical insulating materials, and various components have been standardized extensively, for example :

  • cables for sign and glow tube installations operating with a no-load voltage greater than 1 kV, but not exceeding 10 kV: NF EN 50143 ;

  • insulating oils – determination of fiber contamination by counting method using a microscope NF EN 50353;

  • specifications for particular types of winding wire: NF EN 60317-33, NF EN 60317-33/A1, NF EN 60317-40, NF EN 60317-40/A1, NF EN 60317-40/A2, NF EN 60317-50 ;
