6. Conclusion

Recent years have seen a tightening of the regulatory constraints applying to our activities, and unprecedented financial efforts have been made to improve the safety levels of our facilities. 600 million (source: La réglementation applicable aux silos au titre des installations classées pour la protection de l'environnement, report IGE/03/027 dated August 2003). On this basis, the average cost of bringing silos into compliance would be around e600k per silo, or e15-20 per tonne of capacity, i.e. 10-20% of the cost of building a vertical silo.

Successive regulatory changes have led to major investments, resulting in a reduction in storage capacity in France. According to FranceAgriMer data, storage capacity has fallen by 3.2 Mt, from 58.4 to 55.1 Mt, since the end of 2000, for both regulatory and rationalization reasons, while at the same time production increased...
