6. Conclusion

The procedure for selecting and sizing safety valves is generally as follows.

The definition of safety devices (valves) to protect pressure equipment, and their installation, are generally not the responsibility of the boilermakers (storage tanks) and pipe fitters who CE-mark the equipment. It is the responsibility of the client (engineering or operator) to provide them with the number and size of valve-holder tappings. As the manufacturer is responsible for the resistance of these tappings to external loads (valve discharge reaction, earthquake acceleration stresses), the client must provide him with all the necessary information. In the event of subsequent modification of the valve mounting device, which would have an influence on the reactions in the valve-holding tapping, its suitability must be validated.
