6. Conclusion

This article presents the key elements for understanding the mechanisms at work in slope instability, the main methods for assessing instability and the techniques for reinforcement and monitoring. However, the extreme variety of slopes means that the engineer's judgment is essential, as are the means used to refine the geological, hydrogeological and geomechanical models (synthesized in the geotechnical model).

The transition to the design approaches introduced by Eurocode 7 and its national application standards means that we need to reconsider the ranges of variation accepted by practitioners when considering stable structures.
