3. Modeling torch fires

In the field of industrial risk, modeling enables us to predict the effect distances associated with hazardous phenomena such as flare fires, and thus to impose adequate safety distances around risk zones. The simplest form of modeling consists in predicting the flame length to assess its convective impact on the environment, then associating the point source model to determine its radiative impact. These simple models can be used in a very short space of time to assess the effect distances associated with a torch fire. However, they have the disadvantage of being highly dependent on experimental data, and remain limited to the specific types of fire studied during the experiments. What's more, they are not always applicable on large scales.
