4. Agencies responsible for assessing the health risks of GMOs

We have already seen the involvement of international organizations in the development of a methodology for evaluating GMOs. There are also organizations at the national and European levels, which we will briefly review.

4.1 At the national level

To my knowledge, France was the first country to establish a commission tasked with assessing the risks of GMOs in general and genetically modified plants in particular: the Commission on Biotechnology (CGB). Established in 1986, it recently celebrated its 20th anniversary . Initially under the sole authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, it was later placed under the joint authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment.
