2. Biotreatment of non-sulfide minerals

Two types of minerals corresponding to different process options are considered and described below. On the one hand, there are minerals that are transformed to be recovered in the form of a compound different from the natural product, and on the other hand, there are minerals that are made recoverable by eliminating the impurities that penalize them.

2.1 Sulfato-reduction

Sulfate reduction is the ability of many bacterial species to intervene in the sulfur oxidation-reduction cycle. These include

  • sulfate-reducing organisms such as those of the Desulfovibrio genus;

  • aerobic organisms such as Thiobacillus and various heterotrophs;

  • various archaea...
