1. Mushrooms of interest to the paper industry

Pulp production involves destructuring wood while preserving the cellulose that forms the paper fiber. To achieve this, it is necessary to eliminate or modify certain elements of the wood, such as lignin and extractables like resins and tannins. In nature, certain fungi carry out these degradations naturally, thanks to the battery of enzymes present in their metabolism.

The use of microorganisms as a pretreatment for cooking, bleaching or refining began in the 1970s. Since then, the main concern has always been to choose the right microorganism to achieve high delignification selectivity without cellulose degradation.
