6. Conclusion

The success of the Tara Oceans expedition relied heavily on close collaboration between scientists and members of the Tara Expeditions logistics team:

The voyage involved not only scientific activities, but also public awareness and education, negotiating through numerous legal and political regulations, dealing with funding uncertainties, pirate threats and unpredictable weather conditions. At various times, journalists, artists and teachers were also on board. Among the visitors were many young people, including schoolchildren from Rio de Janeiro's favelas.
