Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA)

A standard assessment method (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044) enabling multi-criteria and multi-stage environmental assessment of a product.

biorefinery

Succession of physical, chemical and/or biological technologies for deconstruction, separation and functionalisation aimed at transforming biomass in a sustainable way into platform molecules, intermediate or finished commercial products.

genome editing

Technology for modifying (rewriting) the genome using modified nucleases (called “molecular scissors”) which can insert, replace or remove a clearly-defined genome sequence.

platform molecule
