Thermochemical biomass conversion involves heating biomass to high temperatures in a non-oxidizing atmosphere (or under stoichiometric conditions in the case of partial oxidation).
Broadly speaking, three types of thermochemical biomass conversion processes are being developed at pressures close to ambient pressure.
