6.1 Linear vision of the industry

The overall cost of producing oil-rich, easily extractable algal biomass of suitable quality for biofuel applications is still incompatible with economic viability. Roadmaps have been drawn up for R&D efforts . In this case, the vision is linear, following the segmentation of R&D efforts:

Biology and cultivation → Biomass harvesting → Conversion into fuel and co-products → Global sustainability model
