4. Safety concept

Test benches are complex and dangerous installations. There are numerous safety systems to protect operators, test center personnel and the surrounding population in general, classified according to the different risks generated in the event of an incident or accident.

A test bench includes rotating, noisy and vibrating machines, hot parts, fuel supplies with explosion hazards, discharges of pollutant-laden liquids and toxic exhaust gases.

Each of these functions must be addressed in terms of personnel and environmental safety.

Rotating parts must be protected by protective covers. Particular attention must be paid to transmissions between the heat engine and the load machine. This is often achieved by means of a universal joint or a torsionally elastic system, which means that in the event of a transmission failure,...
