9. The hydrogen car
Hydrogen is a fuel that at first glance seems interesting because, when it reacts with oxygen in the air, it yields nothing but water. Nevertheless, like electricity, it is an energy carrier that has to be produced from fossil fuels or water, which can be a source of pollution and CO 2 emissions.
9.1 Consumption
As with the electric car, let's take a look at the average efficiency of a car using a fuel cell and hydrogen as fuel. Whether the hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels or by water electrolysis, the average efficiency is around 70%. The efficiency of compressing and transporting the hydrogen must also be taken into account, resulting in a loss of around 10%. Finally, the efficiency of a fuel cell is around...
