6. Conclusion

This first part outlines the various non-3D approaches used to model and analyze the operation of internal combustion engines.

The global approach considers the engine as a black box, with input conditions (intake condition, injection, etc.) and output results (torque on the drive shaft, exhaust gases). We obtain a view of operation through a set of parameters such as power, average pressure, efficiency and specific consumption. These quantities enable us to say whether the engine meets the requirements of vehicle use in terms of mechanical performance and compliance with pollutant emission standards.

The second stage consists of an envelope cycle modeling approach. All cycle phases are represented by theoretical thermodynamic evolutions (isochoric, isobaric, isothermal, polytropic, isentropic phases, etc.). The result of this approach is...
