5.1 Model of the composition of the various components

When modeling engine operation, it is essential to know the composition of the fluids evolving throughout the cycle, as well as their thermodynamic characteristics. The following is a summary of the main components of fluid composition during the four phases of the cycle. The specific vocabulary used for naming gases (fresh charge, residual gases, recycled gases, etc.) does not specify the conditions under which the characteristics of these gases are calculated, but gives a picture of the overall change in composition during the cycle (table 4 ).
