4. Conclusions: what does the future hold for the slow 2-stroke engine?
What does the future hold for these 150-year-old slow-moving machines, when internal combustion engines are already doomed to disappear from some of our cities?
-
In reality, it's not combustion engines that the authorities are targeting, but the fossil fuels that turn into CO 2 emissions. On the contrary, the ability of slow-moving engines to burn all kinds of fuels makes them allies of the energy transition. As soon as the logistics for decarbonized fuels are in place, the mass conversion of these engines to these new fuels can take place almost instantaneously, unlike other solutions such as batteries or fuel cells, for which the industry is not ready and the constituent materials already under stress.
