2-stroke engines are widely used on the water, on land, in the air, and in the hands, from the smallest 2 cm model engine to the most powerful. 3 to the largest marine engines.
Unfortunately, they have long suffered from a bad image, perfectly justified by the considerable unburnt hydrocarbon pollution caused by carburettor engines (fuel short-circuiting and misfiring).
Nevertheless, they offer important advantages inherent to the 2-stroke cycle: simplicity, lightness, compactness, low friction and pumping losses, double cycle frequency and high specific power.
A new generation of 2-stroke engines with direct fuel injection, sometimes combined with advanced combustion processes such as CAI combustion and innovative engine design (opposed pistons, etc.), has been developed...
