6. Conclusion

Right from the start of the Industrial Revolution, the internal combustion engine has been a privileged field of invention for automakers and many passionate inventors. Experience has shown that this effervescence has continued unabated over the years. From the early 1900s onwards, a number of engine and vehicle manufacturers made the French automotive industry famous.

While this industry still occupies a major place among the world's leading automotive industries, its international standing, while still significant, has become more modest due to fierce international competition generated by incessant economic and legislative constraints, with the resulting permanent restructuring in the now acknowledged context of global warming.
