8. Residual stresses

As we all know, any manufacturing process introduces residual stresses into a mechanical part, which will influence its fatigue, fracture and even corrosion behavior. There are few material processing methods that do not generate a new state of stress. The role of residual stresses is therefore very important when designing a mechanical part. In recent years, there has been an increasing number of studies aimed at understanding the effect of residual stresses on mechanical performance. This paragraph attempts to present a global approach to the integration of residual stresses in a fatigue life prediction calculation.
