2. Power transmission
Power transmission is the most common function of mechanical chains. It involves driving a sprocket on a driven shaft from a pinion on a motor shaft that is more or less distant from, but parallel to, the driven shaft.
For a given value of the power to be transmitted P = C ω, we can find all possible combinations between a low torque C at high speed ω and a high torque at low speed.
Power transmission is the preferred application for mechanical roller chains, particularly precision short-pitch chains well suited to high speeds, although this notion of speed must obviously be put into perspective in relation to the size and weight of the chains.
