5. Conclusion

Among mechanical components, the welded box girder is widely used, which is why the author devotes a large part of this article to it, in which the principles of static and fatigue design and dimensioning are set out and detailed. In this field of box girders, the situation of curved girders and their particular behavior, frequently the source of premature disorders, are developed in particular, and are ignored in even modern construction codes.

Through the components examined, which ultimately cover the majority of mechanical assemblies, the author proposes an approach that can easily be used by the designer for static pre-dimensioning in line with modern methodologies, as well as the elements for choosing a design appropriate to the use of the structure under static or variable loading.
