5. Conclusions and outlook

This article has shown that clinching is a joining technique that can be of great interest in construction. But for clinched joints to be adopted by builders, their strength must be easy to assess. This research has laid the foundations for a method of assessing the strength of clinched joints.

Indeed, although the simulation of the clinching process could not be carried out and the initial strategy for numerical modeling could not be followed in full, the numerical tool developed as part of this research proved capable of reproducing the experimental results satisfactorily. Once the numerical models had been validated, it was possible to highlight the physical phenomena governing the behavior of the component under study. Thanks to the finite element model, an analytical shear model was developed and validated.
