5. Welding machines

At first glance, a friction machine is characterized by the maximum forging force it can produce. This parameter provides an indication of machine size and capacity. When welding low-alloy steels, the average unit forging force is 8 to 12 daN /mm 2 (table 2 ).

This allows us to deduce :

  • the maximum solid or tubular cross-section that can be welded by the machine;

  • power and spindle speed for a corresponding full section.
