5. Mechanical properties and failure modes of THR lap-welded grades

All the results reported here were obtained using the following test conditions:

  • lap joint: 16 mm overlap ;

  • wire type: G3Si1 or G4Mo, diameter 1 mm ;

  • gas: Ar + 8% CO 2 , flow 18 to 20 L/min ;

  • Welding direction: push with 10° feed angle;

  • welding angle: 25° ;

  • wire and torch speeds are adapted to each individual case;

  • the width of the welds is equal to that of the test specimens (figure 17 );

  • the maximum stress at rupture is calculated by dividing the force at rupture...
