1.1 Expected qualities of a tool
A tool always consists of two parts, which may or may not be distinct: the body and the cutting part(s). These two components must meet different requirements.
To the body, we ask:
rigidity (non-deformability), but sometimes flexibility (band saw, for example);
good resistance to fatigue ;
to withstand cutting forces without damage;
be brazeable, if required for tooth attachment;
limited density, especially for large tools.
