1.1 Bending
Bending is the irreversible curving of a straight part. This way of producing curved parts is interesting for several reasons:
the wood grain is not sliced, as it would be by machining with material removal, resulting in greater mechanical strength and a more pleasing appearance;
a higher material yield is obtained, thanks to the absence of offcuts.
The natural behavior of wood under low stress is called elastic, i.e. it returns to its initial shape after being deformed as soon as the stress is removed.
