3. Process automation

Automatic welding covers a wide range of degrees of automation. It can be a simple mechanization of torch feed, or a machine that automatically controls all parameters. Examples of automatic welding include :

• sheet metal joining benches ;

• machines for splicing ferrules: turners, jibs ;

• orbital welding machines for joining tubes and pipes. The welding head rotates around the tube;

• guns for welding tubes to exchanger tubesheets;

• machines for continuous tube production from unwound strip.
