5. Assemblies

The assembly of smaller pieces is often necessary due to the natural limitations of the available wood: length and width are dictated by the dimensions of the trees, while thickness is often limited by the difficulty of drying thick cuts without causing cracks, especially in “dry” applications such as furniture. Furthermore, the presence of unacceptable defects forces the user to recut the piece to remove them (trimming). These joints are used to create pieces larger than the original ones; they are almost always permanent.

But it is also essential to assemble parts to create finished three-dimensional objects (furniture, woodwork, roof structures, etc.).
