2. The first copper-based molecular shuttle

2.1 Structure and principle

At the same time as the first molecular shuttle was created in 1994 by J.F. Stoddart, Jean-Pierre Sauvage's team in Strasbourg developed the first electrochemical molecular machine based on copper catenane. A few months later, by adapting the same operating principle to a rotaxane, the first copper-based molecular shuttle was created
