7.1 A nanoparticle is a nanosource of heat.
LSPR is characterized in particular by a resonance absorption peak. This corresponds to maximum absorption of light energy, which is entirely converted into heat in most situations. As a result, plasmonic NPs act as nanometric heat sources that can be activated by light. This has given rise to a significant number of studies and a few applications, such as plasmon-assisted nanochemistry, photothermal imaging, nanosurgery, and photothermal cancer therapies.
