6. Conclusion

We have outlined several recent developments in biological applications of mesoporous silica nanoparticles. These applications cover the fields of imaging, transfection and drug delivery. These nanomaterials are sufficiently engineered to respond to specific stimuli.

New synthesis methods are expected to add even more functionality to these particles, making them the "nanotools" of the future.
