4. Nanoparticles under 10 nm for oncology

The aim of this section is to give a brief overview of the main types of nanoparticles currently proposed for preclinical research in the 1 to 10 nm size range.

4.1 Superparamagnetic particles

Superparamagnetic nanoparticles used for biomedical applications are mainly composed of iron oxides (maghemite γ-Fe 2 O 3 or magnetite Fe 3 O 4 ). Some of these nanoparticles are currently on the market (Feridex®: liver imaging, Resovist®: liver imaging, Combidex®: lymph nodes...).
