2. Applications or implementation

This section presents examples of nanomaterial synthesis in microfluidic devices, ranging from semiconductor synthesis to metal nanoparticle synthesis. However, in order to understand nanoparticle synthesis phenomena, it is first necessary to present the various mechanisms that control the size, shape and (poly-)dispersity of nanomaterials during synthesis.

2.1 Nanoparticle formation mechanisms

Following the success of nanomaterials in recent years for the development of new technologies, their unique structural properties need to be finely controlled and depend essentially on their shape (sphere, prism, rod...), size and size distribution obtained during the synthesis stage.
