4. Conclusion

This article, devoted to additive manufacturing (AM) and structural dimensioning, highlights the change in approach associated with AM in the design and production of complex parts. The common thread chosen to illustrate the specific features of the AM value chain is a flange optimized for a machining robot arm. Here are the key points to remember.

  • Topological optimization for increased performance: the use of software such as SolidWorks®, based on the SIMP method, enables a significant reduction in mass (from 692 g to 156 g in aluminum, – 78%, and 67 g in PA11, – 90%) while maintaining stiffness and complying with mechanical constraints, such as the safety coefficient or maximum displacements.
