5. Materials and Applications

The purpose of this section is to present a non-exhaustive list of the main materials used in PBF-LB and to correlate them with their areas of application. In addition, new materials specifically designed for PBF-LB are currently under development.

The first standards relating to metallic materials used in PBF-LB have been published. They specify heat treatment conditions, which are most often derived from conventional metallurgical material standards. These include the following ASTM standards:

  • ASTM F3184-16 (2023) for stainless steels;

  • ASTM F3607-22 (2022) for maraging steels;

  • ASTM F3055-14...
