3. Post-accident management
3.1 General
The post-accident phase is generally defined as the phase of dealing with the consequences of the accident and restoring living conditions in contaminated areas; it follows the emergency phase.
Until recently, public authorities in many countries, including France, concentrated their efforts on managing radiological and nuclear crises during the emergency phase. It is during this phase that immediate action must be taken to protect the population from the short-term dangers of a radiological emergency.
