4. Qualification of the man-machine interface

The first studies and reflections were based on needs expressed by the operator: identification of the various information users in a nuclear facility, guidelines to be taken into consideration in terms of automation levels and the role of the operating team's composition; a detailed functional analysis of the operating procedures for 900 MW PWR power plants was carried out to identify the operator's tasks and define his information needs.

The study then developed along three lines:

  • design of the man-machine interface, setting out the entire dialog structure (function specification);

  • the architecture of a Control-Command system adapted to this interface (processing capacity, performance, availability);
