2.1 Respecting principles
The overriding principle is to adapt the concept of storage to the type of waste (HLW, HLW or LLW). The design of a repository is very complicated because, in addition to the technical aspects, we have to consider the occurrence of events that are unlikely but not excluded, linked to human activity or natural phenomena, and the possibility that the opening period of the repository has created damage to the integrity of the natural geological barrier. The design must therefore be inspired by a few general principles.
The first is modularity, which means that different storage packages cannot be placed in the same module to avoid long-term chemical interference.
