5. Conclusions

The RBMK reactor concept originally suffered from serious safety shortcomings. Modifications made to Russian and Lithuanian reactors have corrected the most glaring defects, making a repeat of a Chernobyl-type accident unlikely . On the other hand, the exact status of any modifications to Ukraine's Chernobyl No. 3 reactor is very poorly known.
