2. Supersonic combustion, application to propulsion: a problem to be solved

The main practical problem to be solved when using supersonic combustion in combustion chambers is to maintain a dimension for the combustion chamber which, taking into account the various characteristic times controlling mixing, ignition and combustion, remains compatible with that required for its use in aircraft or missile propulsion.
