2. Prioritize the building's energy systems

Air-conditioning-ventilation-heating (HVAC) equipment for office and industrial buildings, and refrigeration equipment for cold stores, are the most energy-intensive technical systems. These are the systems that need to be regulated first and foremost.

There are several types of control for these HVAC-refrigeration systems to meet the requirements of the BACS decree:

  • control programmed according to predefined intervals (e.g. start-up of a building's heating system on a set date);

  • real-time reactive control based on measurements of meteorological or usage-related parameters (for example, starting a building's heating system on the basis of a measured outdoor temperature);

  • predictive regulation of HVAC-R equipment setpoints and parameters; this is based...
