1.1 Production from fossil fuels

The industrial process currently used to produce hydrogen, because of its reducing power, is intended for the oil refining industry, the chemical industry and the production of certain materials. This process can obviously be used to produce hydrogen energy, but the large quantities of carbon dioxide it emits (in France, eleven times more than the hydrogen produced) mean that it will have to be abandoned in the medium term for both industrial and energy use. This is the first priority of the "national strategy for the development of decarbonized hydrogen in France", now the "national low-carbon strategy", decided by the government in 2020
