6. Conclusion
Nickel-metal-hydride technology is well established in a number of fields, and has proved its worth in hybrid vehicle applications. It has been overtaken by lithium for mobile applications, thanks to a higher volumetric and mass energy density, but is nevertheless interesting in many fields. The advantage of using nickel-metal-hydride battery technology lies in the fact that it is a very robust technology that can operate over a wide temperature range and, in many applications, does not require complex electronics. When charging currents are low, a time-controlled charging strategy is possible. In addition, constraints on lithium battery transport and recycling are also arguments in favor of nickel-metal-hydride technology. Recent research activities have focused on improving alloys to limit the phenomenon of decrepitation, but nickel hydroxide is also the subject of research, particularly...
