8. Glossary

Cryostat; cryostat

Physics instrument enabling cryogenic temperatures to be achieved by exploiting the thermal inertia of a very cold liquid.

Isolation statique; static insulation

Thermal insulation designed by interposing insulating materials

Isolation dynamique; dynamic insulation

Thermal insulation designed to make the insulated wall function as a heat exchanger. There are two main types of dynamic insulation: parieto-dynamic and permeo-dynamic.

Parieto-dynamique; parieto-dynamic

Thermal insulation whose construction allows part of the heat passing through it (from the inside to the outside, where it would otherwise have been lost) to be used to warm the air entering the heated and ventilated room.
